Description:

Thanksgiving is a national holiday celebrated in the United States and Canada, as well as several Caribbean Islands and Liberia. It was originally celebrated as a day to give thanks for the harvest of the preceding year. In 1621, Plymouth colonists and Wampanoag Native Americans shared an autumn feast acknowledged today as one of the first Thanksgiving celebrations.

In 1863, in the midst of the Civil War, President Abraham Lincoln proclaimed a national Thanksgiving Day to be held every November.
