Petition form must be approved by SOE (form requirements outlined in Clay County code - Article 1, Section 2.9).

Must include “Pd. Pol. Ad” disclaimer which meets all requirements outlined in F.S.106.143.

Petitioner is charged at time of submission a fee as required by general law per signature is collected (County Charter 2.2:I(2)).

Signatures must be collected within 180 days from SOE approval noted in step 1 (County Charter 2.2:I(2)).**Note: This time frame may need to be collapsed in order to meet time requirements for other steps in this process to ensure full process completion by election date.

SOE has 60 days to verify signatures (County Charter 2.2:I(2)).

When petition certification has been verified BCC must be notified in writing (County Charter 2.2:I(3)).
|
9.
|
BCC must hold public hearing on the issue within 45 days and vote on it (County Charter 2.2:I(3)).
|
10.
|
If BCC fails to enact ordinance, it must call a referendum on the question of adoption of the proposed ordinance by resolution (County Charter 2.2:I(3)).

11.
|
At least 90 days after the adoption of the resolution the ordinance can be voted on at the next General Election (County Charter 2.2:I(3)).

12.
|
The ordinance becomes law if approved by the majority of voters who cast a vote on the issue in that
election, if not specified in the ordinance, on January 1 of the succeeding year.
